Welcome to my itch.io page! My name is Kevin 'Melons' Benavides and I'm a game designer. This page serves as my portfolio of games I worked on before I started my career with Bethesda Games Studios. I've decided to keep this page up as a sort of historical view of my work as a student designer and developer.
For more detailed design breakdowns, visit my Artstation page. There is not a breakdown available for A Journey's Start, but I decided to include it anyway because it holds a special place as my first "real" game I created. Adrift doesn't have anything available on Artstation either, but there is a link to the team's blog on the game's page.
I got into game design because I absolutely love video games and I want to be able to give back to the community that supported me through school and life. I moved away from home to study game design at The University of Texas at Austin. However, my ultimate goal is to go back to the Rio Grande Valley and bring game development close to home. My community back home has talented young individuals who don't have the luxury of moving away and studying at a big university, so my goal is to bring the opportunities to them.
Creating experiences goes beyond making games for me too. I was the Events Director for Longhorn Gaming, the esports and gaming organization at The University of Texas at Austin, for some time. I put together the LANs and meetups for the organization for people to compete in tournaments, meet industry professionals, and participate in contests. Even though it isn't game development related, being able to exercise creativity and design for people regularly helps me to develop and design games.
Overall, I love the gaming industry and the joy that it can bring to people. If I could provide that joy to other people in my professional career, I will have been a success in life. Thank you for reading and checking out my games. Additionally, I am always looking to learn something new so feel free to leave tips in the comments.
